Monrovia, Liberia — February 20, 2025 — The Liberia Urban Resilience Project (LURP), at the Ministry of Public Works, has donated a significant supply of Class A Fire Suppressant Foam Concentrate to the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC).
The foam was supplied by Family Line Energies a Liberia Energy Company after going through a rigorous bidding process through the LURP. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and urban resilience in Liberia’s capital.
It would be used to enhance fire prevention and response at landfill sites and dumpsites throughout the city and is geared towards strengthening Monrovia’s ability to respond effectively issues of fire incidents.
“We are committed to improving the safety and resilience of Monrovia,” said James Brown, Project Director of the Liberia Urban Resilience Project.
“This donation of Class A Fire Suppressant Foam Concentrate is an important step in addressing fire risks at critical sites like When Town and Chessmanburg landfills and dumpsites, which are prone to fires due to the nature of waste disposal in those areas”, he said.
The foam will be deployed at key sites across Monrovia, where landfill and waste management operations are a common source of fire hazards. The Monrovia City Corporation will use the foam to create a proactive approach to fire suppression, ensuring the safety of workers, residents, and the environment.
Class A Fire Suppressant Foam is specifically designed to suppress fires that involve ordinary combustible materials such as wood, paper, and other organic materials typically found at landfill and dump sites.
Given the significant risk of fires in these areas, it is expected that the donation will bolster the fire response capacity of the Monrovia City Corporation and help prevent the spread of fires, which can cause substantial damage to both the environment and nearby communities.
Family Line Energies and Liberia Energy Company have expressed their pride in supporting this initiative.
“As part of our commitment to sustainable energy solutions and safety, we are proud to contribute to the Liberia Urban Resilience Project’s efforts,” said Mohammed Kanneh, representative of Family Line Energies. “This fire suppressant foam is just one product line of our activities on the Liberian market.”
However, the donation is a part of the LURP’s broader objective to strengthen Liberia’s urban resilience, focusing on disaster risk management, infrastructure improvement, and environmental protection. It also emphasizes the importance of cross-sector partnerships in addressing the challenges faced by rapidly urbanizing areas.
