The 16th China Medical team to Liberia on Saturday, October 19, held a medical teaching session, known as the traditional Chinese medicine culture salon.
The teaching session and demonstration are aimed at strengthening medical cooperation, knowledge sharing, and providing deeper insight into the benefits of traditional Chinese medicine.
Head of China’s medical aid team to Liberia, Dr. Guo Jian said traditional Chinese medicine is one of the most treasured in Chinese culture.
Dr. Guo explained that traditional Chinese medicine is a precious treasure left by their ancestors. Providing insights into some traditional medicine, he disclosed that the Chinese medicine fragrance pouch is used to clean the lungs, drive away mosquitoes, and enhance better smells for the house.
Dr. Guo revealed that Auricular acupoint therapy is a therapy that utilizes a variety of specially designed instruments to stimulate ear points in order to treat diseases, while scrapping is a therapeutic method of scrapping the skin along the meridians with a special plate in a specific direction in order achieve the purposes of curing diseases.
Moreover, Doctor Guo explained that cupping, another form of traditional medicine is used for treating diseases by adsorbing a special pot to a specific part of the body after creating negative pressure, while acupuncture is one of the most known traditional Chinese medicine that is used for treating diseases by stimulating acupuncture points with specially designed needles.
He also stated that artemisinin is a drug used to treat malaria by reducing significantly its mortality in patients, as moxibustion is suitable for various types of diseases caused by colds, and menstrual cramps.
Doctor Guo expressed optimism that Liberians, especially the young generation will devote themselves to preserving inheriting, and promoting Liberia’s traditional medicine by making use of local herbs to benefit the nation.
He went on to say that “traditional medicine is like a pair of warm hands, taking care of every nation in a long history.”
