The Government of Liberia has strongly condemned the student protests that took place on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, involving students of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS).
These protests are in response to an ongoing “go-slow” action by teachers who identify as “volunteer teachers” within the MCSS.
In a swift response, the Government convened an emergency meeting with the Ministry of Education, the Civil Service Agency, and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to address the situation. The meeting concluded with the decision to launch a three-week investigation into the challenges faced by teachers, particularly those alleged to be on the government’s payroll.
The government has pledged to ensure that the recruitment and placement of teachers in classrooms meet established standards. Efforts are being made to guarantee that all government schools are staffed with qualified educators.
Furthermore, “volunteer teachers” who meet the qualifications set forth by the Ministry of Education will be assured of receiving their rightful salaries. The government remains committed to resolving these issues swiftly and effectively.
