Monrovia, April 12, 2025 — The Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia (CIUL), celebrated 2025 International Chinese Language Day with a special radio broadcast aired on the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) show “Chinese in the Air” on the morning of April 12.
The program, themed “Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space,” was part of CIUL’s 2025 celebration activities.
The broadcast was featured on ELBC FM 99.9 and live-streamed on the broadcaster’s official Facebook page, drawing strong interest from radio listeners and online viewers.
Co-hosted by CIUL instructors Huang Yu, Samuel K. Deyekeh, and Boakai K. Wilson, the program introduced audiences to the “Six Arts,” an ancient Chinese educational framework that included Rites, Music, Archery, Charioteering, Literacy, and Numerical Mastery. The hosts also described how these arts have been inherited and developed in modern education and cultural life.

Then, they introduced the “Four Arts”— Guqin, The Game of Go, Calligraphy, and Painting—and discussed how these traditional forms reflected ancient Chinese ideals of self-cultivation and aesthetic appreciation. The program was enriched with fascinating legends and beautiful performances of traditional Chinese music.
Listeners were invited to participate via a live call-in segment, during which many expressed their enthusiasm for Chinese culture and their desire to learn more about the language and traditions.
The special 2025 International Chinese Language Day program was well received by the public and praised for promoting cross-cultural understanding.
Organizers said it served as an example of CIUL’s ongoing efforts to foster educational and cultural exchange between China and Liberia.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia stated that it would continue to serve as a cultural bridge, hosting diverse events to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
