From April 3 to 8, 2025 (local time), the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia (CIUL) successfully hosted one of the 2025 International Chinese Language Day events—a hard-pen calligraphy competition. The competition attracted over 200 students, and after a fierce competition, 20 outstanding participants stood out and won awards. This year’s International Chinese Language Day was themed “Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space”. Inspired by this theme, CIUL organized a calligraphy competition focused on “cultural heritage,” encouraging students to experience the depth of Chinese culture and the artistic beauty of Chinese characters through handwriting. A €42 million grant from the European Union (EU) will ensure that the “Light Up the Southeast” (LUSE) initiative connects over 12,000 homes in Buchanan, 4,344 households in Greenville, and the Barclayville area to clean, reliable electricity by April 2026. The Senior Management Team (SMT) of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning is aware of a disturbing video circulating on social media, showing one of its employees— a director at the Ministry, assaulting an elderly citizen.
